Antique Tambour Lace Cuff (?) Handworked
Tambour is the method of working chain stitch on a net fabric base to create a design. It was very popular in between 1800's. This lace I think was once the cuff of a garment. These cuffs were often removable to allow for laundering and to attach to more than one garment.
There are two pieces available. They each measure 19.5 cms wide. One measures 60cm long and the other 70cms.
The lace net that this has been stitched on is very fine. Some of the stitching is so dense as to create a 3D effect. Whilst the stitching creates a regular pattern some of the stitches are irregular which would seem to suggest that it has been handmade.
This lace is gorgeous and in beautiful condition for its age - each piece has two small holes, but this does not detract from their beauty. They are extra special collector pieces.
Like all vintage goods once it is sold there is no more available.
